Easy Italian beef burgers

Sick of the old 'regular' beef burgers? Try these easy and simple Italian based ones! Use any type of rolls or bread you like, and serve them with fries or polenta chips (see recipe notes for a link to our polenta chip recipe). Source: kidspot

Ingredients

  • Beef500 g
  • Egg1 piece, lightly beaten
  • Basil2 tbsp, finely chopped
  • Garlic1 clove, crushed
  • Olive oil2 tbsp
  • Olive oilspray
  • Parmasan cheese½ cup
  • Red bell pepper150g, chargrilled, sliced thickly
  • Onions1 piece, sliced thinly
  • Breadcrumbs, panko1/2 cup
  • Spices, paprika1 tsp
  • Bread4 bread rolls, split
  • Basil pesto½ cup
  • Arugula40g

Steps

  1. 1. Combine beef, breadcrumbs, egg, basil, garlic and paprika in a bowl. Season with salt and pepper. Using clean hands, shape mixture into four 2cm-thick patties. Refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  2. 2. Brush a chargrill pan with oil and heat over medium-high heat. Cook patties for 4-5 minutes each side or until just cooked through.
  3. 3. Meanwhile, lightly spray the cut sides of bread rolls with oil. Cook, cut-side down, on the chargrill for 1-2 minutes or until toasted and lightly charred.
  4. 4. Place toasted roll bases on serving plate. Spread with half the pesto. Top with rocket, parmesan, capsicum, onion and beef patties. Top with remaining pesto and sandwich with roll tops. Serve.
