The two best fruit starters come together with a little bonus flavour: cinnamon. Try Gala, Fuji or Pink Lady apples and Nashi pears. If a pear is totally ripe it won’t need cooking at all. Both are great sources of fibre and vitamin C. Pears are especially good for constipated babies. Source: kidspot

Ingredients

  • Apple1
  • Water1 cup
  • Pear1, ripe
  • Spices, cinnamonsmall pinch

Common allergens (USDA)

Recommended after 12 months old

Steps

  1. 1. STOVE TOP OR OVEN: Peel, core and cut the apple into small pieces.
  2. 2. Bring a cup of water to boil in a small saucepan and add the apple. Turn the heat down a little and cook until soft, around 10 minutes. Don’t let the water boil dry; add a little more if you need to. Meanwhile peel and deseed the pear.
  3. 3. Puree until smooth in a blender; add a little extra water if required. Sprinkle some cinnamon into the puree and stir to blend.
  4. 4. MICROWAVE: Peel, core and cut the apple into small pieces. Place in a microwave-safe container with a little bit of water (you will not need the whole cup of water for the microwave method).
  5. 5. Cover with cling wrap, leaving a corner free to allow steam to vent and cook on HIGH for a minute or until soft.
  6. 6. Meanwhile peel and deseed the pear. Puree until smooth in a blender; add a little extra water if required. Sprinkle some cinnamon into the puree and stir to blend.
