Asparagus is an excellent vegetable to introduce to your baby, packed with nutrients like folate, vitamin K, and fiber. Pairing it with sweet potato creates a balanced, flavorful purée that's perfect for little ones.

Ingredients

  • Asparagus6 spears
  • Sweet potato1 medium

Common allergens (USDA)

Recommended after 12 months old

Steps

  1. 1. Wash, peel, and cut the sweet potato into 1-inch cubes. Wash the asparagus thoroughly and trim off the tough ends (about 1 inch from the bottom). Cut the asparagus into 1-inch pieces.
  2. 2. Steam the sweet potato cubes for about 8 minutes. Add the asparagus pieces to the steamer and continue steaming both vegetables for another 4-5 minutes, or until both are very soft when pierced with a fork.
  3. 3. You can choose to blend or mash with fork. For blending, transfer the cooked sweet potato and blend until smooth, adding water or breastmilk/formula to reach the desired consistency. You can choose to blend asparagus together if you prefer purees.
  4. 4. Let cool before serving. Asparagus is perfect for baby-led-weaning along with the mashed sweet potato!
